Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS)

The Great British Insulation Scheme (formerly ECO+) is a UK government initiative aimed at improving home energy efficiency. Launched in summer 2023 and running until March 2026, it has a funding pool of £1 billion, supported by the Energy Price Guarantee until March 2024.

This scheme is accessible to a wider audience compared to the ECO4 scheme, allowing homeowners and tenants in eligible council tax bands and Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ratings to apply for funding for one affordable energy efficiency measure to enhance comfort and performance in their homes.

Are You Eligible? Key Requirements for Applicants

  • English residents: Homes with an EPC rating of D to G in council tax bands A to D.
  • Welsh and Scottish residents: Homes with an EPC rating of D to G in council tax bands A to E.
  • Low-income households: Eligible if they meet the EPC criteria and do not qualify for ECO4 funding.
  • Exclusions: Applicants who have received funding from other government energy efficiency schemes are ineligible.

Available Insulation Options

Under the Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS), Microgen Energy offers various low-cost insulation options to help eligible homeowners boost their energy efficiency:

  • Cavity Wall Insulation: This involves injecting insulation material into cavity walls to significantly reduce heat loss.
  • Loft Insulation: This option consists of adding or topping up insulation in the loft to a depth of 300mm, which helps minimize heat escape.

Mandatory Ventilation Measures

Proper ventilation is essential for effective insulation and to prevent condensation issues. Our installation process includes:

  • Comprehensive checks of window functionality and door clearance.
  • Installation of trickle vents in rooms that lack them.
  • Mechanical ventilation solutions, typically using a Positive Input Ventilation (PIV) system in the loft.

Heating Controls

For residents receiving qualifying benefits, we also offer the installation of heating controls, including:

  • Programmable Thermostats for boilers.
  • Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRVs) for individual radiators, enhancing overall energy management.

Summary of Qualifications

Here’s a brief overview of the eligibility criteria and services offered by Microgen Energy under the GBIS:

  • Loft Insulation: Available only to homeowners receiving benefits, with a requirement for heating controls.
  • Cavity Wall Insulation:Accessible to all homeowners and tenants, regardless of benefits, with optional heating controls for benefit recipients.

All installations are subject to a thorough survey and must meet the necessary EPC criteria. Properties should fall within council tax bands A to E to qualify.
